Welcome friends!!! I’m Alicia, and if you’re reading this, that means you’ve taken some time to find out a little about me. Well… I’m a proud Caribbean New Yorker. Born and raised on the island of St. Vincent (a place I’ll be talking a lot about on this blog), and now a proud Brooklynite.
Writing is one of my first loves. It’s my main reason for starting this blog. My mind is constantly overflowing with thoughts and ideas that I want to share – and what better way to express them than through written word. Think of this blog as a big old diary that mirrors certain aspects of your own life.
Ever since I can remember I have loved to write and create. In fact, creativity is very much my life. Seven years ago I started my jewelry design business Alicia Dewar Designs, and it continues to be one of the best decisions I ever made.
I’m still trying to find my way. Still trying to find my space in a world that tries to fit me into a box of its own choosing. I spent most of my adult life caring too much about fitting into those boxes. Then found myself making choices that were so safe I was no longer happy.
ABOUT MY FORTIES
Leading up to my 40th birthday, I remember freaking out because according to society I should have already been married, with a family, house, and a dream job. And felt like I had somehow failed at life because I had not achieved any of those things. Still in the process of figuring “stuff” out, I went through that whole year focused on the woman I wasn’t, instead of being focused on the already phenomenal woman in the mirror.
My “AHA” moment came the day I realized my life was exactly the way it was supposed to be, and that the only thing that needed changing was my way of thinking. It was then that I made the decision to become the ENTREPRENEUR of MY LIFE. To stop hinging my happiness on other people and what they felt it should look like. It was time to live authentically, on my own terms, and be the best person I could be….for ME.
ABOUT THIS BLOG
So I’ve decided that my Forties and every decade after…are going to be Freakin’ Fabulous. I’m a work in progress–still growing, still making mistakes on the way to living my best life, but that’s the best part about this journey. Life doesn’t end at a certain age, and womanhood isn’t contingent on the opinions of others.
I look forward to sharing some of my experiences with you, and hope to inspire you on your own path to living your best life. I’ll be sharing tips and advice on being an entrepreneur; highlighting some of my favorite products and NYC spots; discussing fashion and travel; showcasing art and music that give me life; and yes…there will be many opinion pieces and lots of venting about WOMANHOOD, and LIFE after 40.
Feel free to contact me at anytime.
